The Times of India reports that fatty liver disease, a condition in which fat accounts for more than 5–10% of the liver’s weight, affects about one in three persons globally. Sadly, a lot of people might not even be conscious that they have it.
The following nine common foods may be contributing to fatty liver disease:
1. Refined cereals and white bread
Refined flour products, white bread, and pizza dough can quickly raise blood sugar levels, causing your body to retain extra glucose as fat, some of which is stored in the liver. For an alternative that is better for your liver, try whole grains.

2. Breakfast cereals with added sugar
Your liver needs to work hard to metabolize the sugar in many breakfast cereals, especially in the morning. This strain has the potential to cause liver fat accumulation over time.
3. Sweetened drinks and soda
The liver processes the high-fructose corn syrup and other added sugars found in sodas, energy drinks, iced teas, and bottled fruit juices. The sugar in drinks like sodas, energy drinks, or iced tea can be turned into fat and stored in liver cells, according to a study posted on the Ohio State University website. This can eventually result in fatty liver disease, which can develop to cirrhosis, a severe form of liver scarring, if treatment is not received.
4. Snacks in packages
Chips, crackers, and similar commercial snacks are high in trans fats, processed carbohydrates, and preservatives, which are elements that have little nutritional value and place additional strain on your liver.
5. Meat that is red
Red meat has a lot of saturated fats, which can cause the liver to become inflamed and accumulate fat. Salami, bacon, and sausages are processed meats that are very harmful to the liver. Think about replacing red meat more frequently with plant-based or lean protein sources.
6. Cakes and pastries
Consuming cakes, muffins, donuts, and pastries on a regular basis might strain your liver. These sweets include a lot of sugar and bad fats, which cause the liver to store fat.
7. Foods that are fried
Trans fats, which are difficult for your liver to digest, are abundant in deep-fried foods like fried chicken and French fries. These fats build up in the liver over time. If there is too much oil and batter in them, even air-fried versions can be dangerous.
8. Dairy products with full fat
High amounts of saturated fats and added sugars, which are hard for the liver to absorb and can lead to fat accumulation, are found in whole milk, full-fat cheeses, and yogurts.
9. Fast food
Noodles, pizza, burgers, and other fast food items are frequently heavy in harmful fats, sugar, and salt. When used regularly, these substances might overwhelm your liver, causing fat accumulation and liver damage.
